Generator Load Bank Testing
Periodic load bank testing is an essential element of a preventative maintenance program and helps ensure proper operation of your generator’s engine, alternator, and ancillary systems. While many facilities are required to perform load bank testing to satisfy NFPA-110 requirements, this testing is often an optional service which should be viewed as one of the most important measures of the generator’s ability to operate as designed.
The benefits of annual load bank testing are numerous and invaluable to determining proper operation:
- Eliminates the ‘wet stacking’ condition diesel engines develop when operating at light loads for extended periods.
- Ensures proper airflow and engine cooling including ventilation, exhaust, and landscaping hazards
- Testing to 100% confirms the generator’s ability to perform at rated loads including block loading if needed
- Dries the alternator windings of moisture
